It looks a bit better in a swf window, because you can see it boxed rather than floating on a page. This could probably be fixed by adding a background color to the html. Let's see what the class will say!

Sunday at the Met with artists John Baldessari and David Salle

I follow The Met museum in Facebook, and sometimes they give really interesting updates, like about a meeting with John Baldessari this Saturday. The great thing is that we all, living in this area, are able to go and participate if we want. I didn't know much about John Baldessari, so what I found out is that he is an American conceptual artist, meaning he pays more attention to the meaning of his creations rather than the aesthetic qualities. That explains a lot actually, since his paintings seem quite unusual. I find similarities with Surrealism, specifically Joan Miro, may be because of the simplicity and minimalism of the items on the canvas, as well as the emphasis on the ideology of the work.

I found this new website, which is called dexigner.com. It's a great source for the news in design; also the website itself is very interactive and nicely created.

Just found this article on how an organization called SEE started to develop concepts of implementing design in other domains, such as the public sector, social innovation and sustainability projects.

AIGA JOB Postings

Recently I was looking at the AIGA website, and noticed something very obvious that I didn't see before. AIGA has some job postings for the designers on their website. I think it is something quite worth looking into if you didn't know about it.

Canon Video Ad

I was doing some research for my Marketing idea, and I really like this ad by Canon. I think it greatly captures the spirit of having a camera handy.

This links contains a video – a lecture presented by Jonathan Harris, a quite famous digital designer. The video starts with an introduction to Jon Harris and his projects, and flows into one specific project that he has developed for online dating. He also elaborates on how is it to merge design and coding and how that process works, also his understanding of ideas, goals, and medium. This is pretty cool and inspirational.

The life of Edouard Baldus - the Met

I stumbled upon this article accidentally through Facebook (that’s where social networks become handy). What intrigued me to start reading the story were the images. I am not much a fan of landscape photography but I found those images quite nice, and wanted to know more about the artist, who apparently is Edouard Baldus, a nineteenth-century French photographer of landscape and architecture.

The story, however, gave me more than just info about this not so well-known photographer. It appears that the curator of the exhibit, who mastered on the biography of this artist, by chance stumbled upon intriguing information about the life of Edouard Baldus.
