This article describes the simple utilitarian creations that we use every day, but neglect to appreciate the genial simplicity of their design and usage. What fascinated me the most is how regular people came up with those ideas, such as a German housewife inventing the coffee filter in 1908, after experimenting with blotting paper from her son’s school exercise book or a Swiss inventor creating the bubble wrap after realizing that sealing air inside plastic film can cushion objects.
